Quicksilver Farms Nubian Dairy Goats

ABOUT US

Quicksilver Farms started out as a 150 acre cattle ranch and quarter horse breeding facility in Alabama in 1994.  We purchased a small Jersey cow from an Amish farm in Tennessee, but as a family we kept getting stomach aches from the milk.  Back then we used a pasteurizer with no understanding that we were killing the enzymes and ruining the perfect vitamin/mineral content of raw milk.  So, we sold our little Jersey cow and purchased our first Nubian dairy goats, thinking that goat milk would be better for us than cow milk.  About the same time we purchased some Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, basically as pets.  Jay developed degenerative disc disease and in 1999 we closed our busy medical practice and relocated to Southern Idaho.  We brought our Nigerian goats and a few horses with us and found homes for the Nubians.

As Jay's health continued to fail despite the best medical care, we started doing research on nutrition (something not taught in medical school).  He spent many days in bed with severe back pain.  Two spine surgeries did little to relieve the discomfort and when a third was suggested, he told his physician no.  To make a long story short, through better nutrition and hydration, including the use of raw dairy products, Jay has slowly healed over the years so that he does not live in continual pain.  We eventually sold our little Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats and concentrated our efforts on the standard size goats for increased milk supply.

2006 saw quite a few changes for our small family.  Crystal married and Jay's hobby became a full time family business, Quicksilver Manufacturing LLC.  We had been raising both French Alpines and Nubians, but without Crystal's help on a daily basis we just felt overwhelmed with 'two' businesses as a family of three.  So, we decided to sell off the goats and concentrate on Quicksilver Manufacturing.  We sold the last does to a friend in early 2007 and started ordering raw milk from Organic Pastures in California. We cleaned out our barn and by mid summer we were miserable without our goats!  Nubians had always been our favorites, so we contacted our friend and she was kind enough to let us repurchase three of our does in August 2007.

So, Quicksilver Farms Dairy Goats returns to the web as just a small Nubian herd.  We've recently sold all of our horses and will be giving our full attention to our Nubians.  Quicksilver Manufacturing LLC is our family business, Quicksilver Farms Dairy Goats is not.  Our Nubian goats are our sincere joy and as an added benefit provide excellent nutrition through raw milk products for our family.  Our first grandson, Clayton, was recently weaned from breast milk to goat milk.

Thank you for visiting and feel free to drop us a note any time!  We love to chat 'dairy goats' or discuss the health benefits of raw goats milk.  Please do check out our links page for a list of health related websites that have been of benefit to our family.
